Quote of the day:
“You are under no obligation to remain the same person you were a year ago, a month ago, or even a day ago. You are here to create yourself, continuously.”
~ Richard Feynman
The magic number in our family was 23 - my grandmother was 23 when she had my mother, my mother was 23 when she had me, and I was 23 when I had my son. So through the years, I always knew how old everyone was
She would've been 97, well past the "expiration date" for women in our family. She passed away in 2013 at the age of 86. The mid-eighties seems to be the end point for us, something I am increasingly aware of.
My mother and I were not close, nor was she part of my life once I left home. I can't really say that I miss her, but I do think of her now and then and wish that things could've been different. But for that to have happened, we both would've had to be very different people....
I don't think she would like the current version of me any more than she liked the previous ones. But then again, maybe the different person she would've become would. We'll never know.
Happy Birthday Mom.
