Quote of the day:

Narrator's voiceover: when last we left her, she was awaiting the arrival of the movers to take the furniture away.... Now it is over a week later.
The move went far better than I, or the coordinator, expected. The movers were able to commandeer the elevator and by 2 PM had the apartment cleared out and were gone. I gathered my things together and headed to the new apartment. On the 11th, it only took them three hours to deliver everything, and then they spent the afternoon unpacking the boxes they had packed and taking all the materials with them.
Then the organizer came and made my kitchen, bath, and laundry rooms functional as the long task of unboxing my life started. A couple things got broken - the foot of a clown piggy bank, a little shelf pig, and one of the balcony figurines - but nothing major.
There are still a couple boxes left in the bedroom and living room, mostly because I cannot restock the media centers until my TVs are hooked up as I have to be able to get behind them. And the 2nd bedroom looks like a new Disaster Area, and that cannot be left that way.
And I have lost my ear buds, my coasters, and some papers that I had thought I had carefully put away - apparently they landed in a box that hasn't been opened yet instead of in the tote bag where I put other things.
I needed another two weeks to straighten things out more, but instead I went back to work on Monday. The good news is that I worked from home all this week - bossman is on vacation and I managed to acquire a nasty cold, so I kept my germs to myself.
I picked up Triscuit from the vet on Friday night. She was really unhappy, complained loudly all the way home and didn't seem to recognize me. When I sat her in the litter box, she cowered down until I picked her up and sat her on the floor, She seemed very apprehensive at first - for her as for me, getting used to the new place, establishing new routines, will take time. Triscuit seems to be settling in fairly well, although the first couple of nights she was hyperactive with exploring. She was happy to find that her sunbeam was here, and that helped her feel at home I think
I will be going back to the old place as I left a couple pieces of furniture there. Originally the lady who used to live across the hall had said she would like to take it, but when I texted her about arranging pickup, I never received a reply, so I turned back to my trusty Junk in the Trunk guys who will take it all away next week for me.
There are also a couple of things that my son-in-law will take - very old Christmas ornaments from back when the kids were little and a couple of camp beds. And there is still a couple of things in the refrigerator that need to be cleaned out and then I'm through and can concentrate on getting situated here
The "maid" - a lovely lady who has been cleaning and pet sitting for me for over a decade - came out for the first time this past Tuesday and straightened up a bit for me. We talked a lot about the best way to clean the hardwood floors and whether I should invest in more area runs. My very dear friend sent me a lovely housewarming gift that graces my new front door
The only lingering issues I have with this new abode: I am parking outside for now [I am third on the waiting list for a garage space] and it is not in a secure area, plus being out in the weather [which reminds me, I need to buy a scraper]; and I really do miss the view from the balcony.
And so life goes on....
