Day 234 - it is what it is

Today is the 3rd day of the 34th week, the 22nd day of the 8th month, the 234th day of 2023, and:

  • Be an Angel Day
  • International Day Commemorating the Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief
  • National Bao Day
  • National Eat a Peach Day
  • National Pecan Torte Day
  • National Surgical Oncologist Day
  • National Tooth Fairy Day
  • Never Bean Better Day
  • Southern Hemisphere Hoodie Hoo Day
  • Take Your Cat to the Vet Day - this is not a day of celebration, at least not for any of the cats that I have had!  It usually involves quite an elaborate chase thru the apartment and a cat who complains loudly during the entire drive to the vet
  • World Plant Milk Day
Quote of the day:
"Do not take life too seriously.  You will never get out of it alive."
~ Elbert Hubbard,  American [who moved to Ireland] writer, publisher, artist, and philosopher who's first job was as a traveling salesman for a soap company [he was apparently very good at it

Construction update:

It appears the parking lot will not be repaved after all, as the lines look freshly drawn, or at least I cannot imagine why they would bother painting the lines, then cover them over, and repaint the lines.  While I suppose this would save some money, it certainly doesn't look very nice for an apartment complex billing itself as "luxury" accommodations.

Then again, I definitely prefer that they spend more money on needed repairs, especially making sure the elevators are all working

A sampling of the things I found interesting and shared on social media online today:
  • Neflix is airing the Star Trek documentary by Nimoy's son called "For the Love of Spock" that came out seven years ago
  • SeaWorld is guarantying against bad weather - if your visit is impacted you can come back for free within the year.
  •  Lots of NIMBY going on as the MD governor once more tries to fix the bottleneck known locally as "the spur"
  • DID imitators are posting on TikTok with very little understanding of how difficult it is to get a system to work
  • Japan has had it with tourists living up to the  "Ugly American"  stereotype (( the article actually doesn't mention Americans specifically, but that is what it put me in mind of ))
  • Fox news blames Biden for letting a hurricane into the US, and for starting his Senate career three years before he is born
  • DeSantis' new district employees are still taking advantage of the perks they were given when they were Disney employees, and the bill is now due.  Somehow DeSantis' chosen admins think that is WDW's fault and an ethics violation that they were ever given the perks in the first place.
I read a lot of other articles that I didn't share, but that gives you all an idea of what grabs my interests these days.  The other things?  the usual - politics [especially the legal analyses of the indictments along with some reposts of unhinged diatribes from Truth Social], what is happening to twitter, healthcare woes, lunar landings and crashes, the proliferation of climate woes, hate crimes, etc.   You know, the really cheery items available for anyone who makes the mistake of paying attention to the news.  Then trying to figure out why I should pay for a portable lamp because it looks like a book.  ((spent a surprising amount of time on that one because it it does look awfully cool))

Oh and I worked today.  Listened to a sales pitch on an upgrade to our loan accounting system and had the sales staff sending me a servicing agreement to sign within the hour when all I asked for was the due diligence materials.

Yup, definitely a day not to take too seriously!
