Quote of the day:
"There's a great power in words, if you don't hitch too many of them together."
~ Josh Billings, American humorist of the 1800s
So, let's say you have a lot going on in your life.
In fact? Sometimes it seems that everything you try to say about the goings on in your life, no matter how matter-of-factly you frame it, is a whole pile of .... well I guess crap is the word that I am going to use because I can't think of one that conveys the same thing even when I would like to be articulate and witty. You see, it isn't always the big major issues, altho we are struggling as a family with a couple of those, it is the niggling little "things just really aren't going right" type of everyday wear and tear.
But? you don't want to be a Debbie Downer! You know your family and close friends love and care about you, but it seems here lately your conversation is all about, well crappy stuff (( yeah, there's that word again )). All the gurus agree, folks prefer others who are upbeat and cheerful, who talk about interesting things rather than moaning about politics or arguing religion, talking about work, and laying out tales of woe. But then again? You don't want to make your intimates feel as tho you aren't trusting them with where you are in your journey right now because, hey, we all go thru rough patches and sharing your worries makes them somehow lighter.
So where's the line between sharing and whining?
Now obviously I'm asking this for a friend, because we were all brought up that we don't air our dirty laundry in public, but if you come up with a line that works, let me know! I'll be sure to pass the message on....
*cough cough*
