And sometimes all three coincide, neh?
I like the idea of having a Friday the 13th in October since we celebrate everything spooky this time of hear. Halloween, as celebrated hereabouts and in Second Life, is actually one of the most fun holidays and I have some pretty happy memories of trick or treating, both doing it as a kid and giving out candy. I love that some people go overboard in decorating their houses with extravagant theming Me? the most I managed was a jack-o-lantern and maybe some ghosts dangling from the tree branches, or the door wrapped with an appropriate picture. These days I don't do anything, except maybe dress up in world.
Facebook's memories have been reminding me that 14 years ago, I was officially diagnosed as having Diabetes II. I was flabbergasted, having been hypoglycemic for years, but not totally surprised as my old family doctor had warned me that having low blood sugar in youth often meant the pancreas would fail to produce insulin when I aged. At first, I couldn't even figure out how to make the little OneTouch monitor work, although I quickly figured out I was not going to be finger pricking constantly. Back then though, it was quite manageable through diet. And then I had to have Metformin to encourage the pancreas to produce insulin, and that dosage kept increasing. Then the GP suggested that just injecting 10 units of long-acting insulin in the evening would help. That dosage too kept increasing, and slowly we added morning and evening shots. Nowadays? I have to take both long-term and short-term insulin shots [the latter tied to when I eat], as well as wear a Libre2 sensor to monitor my blood sugar levels. But apparently my pancreas is still producing insulin, albeit at irregular intervals and amounts, so I am still classified as having Diabetes II rather than I.
In addition to being Friday the 13th, it is another lovely autumn day with brilliant sunshine, light breezes, and mild temperatures for this time of year. That is set to change for the weekend - tomorrow in particular is supposed to be rainy and chilly. Of course, management still has not turned on the heat in the apartment, with no official word of when that will be done. I feel sorry for those who have tickets for the Renaissance Festival tomorrow - not so much for the faire itself, but parking in that field is going to be a mess
And it is payday! So overall, a good day with which to end the work week
