I live in a 20-story high rise apartment building. As of last night, none of the four elevators are working. Two haven't worked in over two months - apparently the parts are "on order". One stopped working yesterday evening, leaving everyone to wait in line on the first floor. None of the buttons will summon an elevator, but the one will let you on and take you if you happen to be on a floor when it opens. All maintenance can report is that the elevator repairmen have been called and said they would come and take a look. Of course management has not shared any of this information with the tenants. There was an order of perishable food delivered downstairs at 5:30 PM for me yesterday and I learned of all this the hard way, but not being able to get downstairs. The only way I could pick my food up is if I walk down, then climb up 20 floors - a feat I would've found difficult before I had issues. Or if I stand there and wait until someone gets off on my floor - the elevators run, but only to the floors that are pressed on the inside. I was able to get my box [with items that should've been refrigerated immediately and were warm] and get back upstairs, being careful to press "1" and "B" to send the elevator back for the next set of people trying to get up. I worry the elevator people will tell the property manager it is a building problem, not elevator issue, and heaven only knows how long it will take to get it fixed.
And the good news is - I sent an email to Stoltzfus to ask if it would be okay to eat the scrapple and sweet bologna, explaining what had happened with the delivery. They did not reply - but then I got an email saying I had re-ordered both items for $0. If you ever have a yen for PA Dutch food stuffs, I cannot recommend them highly enough - everything I have gotten from them has been delicious and they have exemplary customer service.
In other building news, I climbed the stairwell to the 19th floor to see if their elevator button was working before calling management - and walked past the apartment below me that had the fire on Sunday, August 6th. Apparently both the electricity and the gas have been turned off in the apartment - which explains the stench I had to deal with a couple of weeks ago as their refrigerator was no longer working - and there are other issues as well. And at the bottom of that handwritten notice, it says "The Owner/Occupant is put on notice to correct the violations note within 24 hours, or be subject to a fine of $500 for each day thereafter the violation exists." Want to take bets on the county's ability to collect that fine from our NY slum landlord LLC? They'll probably add it to what debts they feel those two poor dudes owe them if the fire proves to have been their fault
It was a quiet day on the work front, as always happens the day before a long holiday weekend. For the two who are in the office working, it will be an early out, a tradition bossman has adhered to faithfully although he seems to feel that working from home negates the need for that benefit. The reports that have to go to the equity owners are done, and next week I can start on the internal reports
No plans for the weekend other than to do laundry and chores [which may or may not get done], and I have already disabled the alarm for Monday morning.
Bring it on!
