Quote of the day:
"My favorite poem is the one that starts 'Thirty days hath September' because it actually tells you something."
~ Groucho Marx

The weather guys say that today is the start of the fall season - and today it feels like it could be.  The temps last night dipped into the low 50°s and the morning was almost crisp as the dewpoints were also low.  It won't last, it never does, as September hereabouts likes to provide some pretty hot and humid weather, almost as though it is trying to rival August.  Indeed, next week is slated for some of the hottest temperatures this year with high's that may reach 100°F

My first thought about September is the song from the Fantasticks, that muses
Deep in December, it's nice to remember
Although you know the snow will follow
Deep in December, it's nice to remember
Without a hurt the heart is hollow
Deep in December, it's nice to remember
The fire of September that made us mellow
Deep in December our hearts should remember, and follow
It was a great play, in fact it has the distinction of being the world's longest running musical, not to mention it was a staple of school and community theaters.  But, as happens sometimes, the great play made a mediocre movie being one of those plays that does much better with minimal sets.   I was surprised to find out that Tom Jones created the lyrics while Harvey Schmidt composed the music.  It's been a song that many different artists have interpreted their own way, but I really wish I could've heard the original sung by Jerry Orbach.

Today?
It's Friday.
It's payday.
It's the start of a long weekend.

Of course it is also the usual EOM flurry of stuff that has to get done, I have to venture out after work to brave the holiday store crush to pick up a prescription, and there's a stink in my kitchen that I can't find, but hey, life can't be perfect, now can it?
