Day 161 - a Caturday to take it easy

Today is the 7th day of the 23rd week, the 10th day of the 6th month, the 161st day of 2023, and:

  • Alcohol Anonymous Founders' Day - formed on this day in 1935
  • Artichoke Day
  • Ballpoint Pen Day
  • Belmont Stakes - good thing the AQI radically improved.  The Belmont Stakes is the oldest of the Triple Crown races, starting six years before the Preakness and eight years before the Kentucky Derby in 1867.
  • Family Fitness and Health Day [moved from September]
  • International Young Eagles Day
  • National Black Cow Day
  • National Herb and Spices Day
  • National Iced Tea Day [June 10th in 1904 was a Friday]
  • National Rosé Day - note this is Rosé not Rose.  That's later in the month
  • National Shopping Outlet Day
  • Portugal Day
  • Race Unity Day
  • World Art Nouveau Day
  • World Gin Day
  • Worldwide Knit [and Crochet] in Public Day
  • the last quarter of the moon at 3:32 PM EDT
  • Voyager 1 is 22h 04m 50s of light travel time from Earth
Quote of the day:
"No amount of experimentation can ever prove me right; a single experiment can prove me wrong."
~ Albert Einstein

Well I found out how I duplicated the day numbers, because I almost did it again today - hadn't updated this browser and I posted my previous entry on a different machine, and when I start the next blog post I use the number from the previous one.  Still don't know why I can't pinpoint the date that happened tho.

The AQI hereabouts has improved as the Canadian wildfire smoke has dissipated.  The experience with the AQ Purple alert was not pleasant, to say the least, and I was stunned to read in New York the AQI reading hit 428 - the index only goes to 500 - and that for one day they had the worst air quality in the world.

And yet?  there are still those who ignore this portent of the world to come

I finally walked over to the management office and picked up the air purifier that was delivered - no wonder they couldn't leave it in the HUB!  The box was large, and heavy, and I had a bit of a time getting it back to the apartment even using the cart.  While I was there, I got my pool pass, not that they have told us when they are opening the pool yet.  I inquired about guest passes - and was told they were available, but they were $5 apiece - and the office would only accept money orders as payment.  Yes you read that right - money orders!  And there is no other alternative.  You have to physically to go the office, and pay for guest passes in person with money orders.  I can't remember the last time I saw money orders advertised for sale and offhand have no idea where to get on locally.

The fallout in the news is continuing to dominate my social media feeds, and I will admit to scrolling and reading obsessively.  This entire decade seems to me to be as turbulent as the 1960's were!  From the emergency of the radical GOP to Cuba harboring Chinese spying stations to the war in Ukraine.....

I'm just so damned weary of it all.  And my biggest concern as I listen to all the loudmouths is that they will win by wearing the rest of us down to the point where we just give up.  I haven't reached that saturation point yet, but since 2016 the political turmoil and churn has just been exhausting.

Can we please find the imbecile who wished for interesting times and get them to take it back?
