Quote of the day:
"Concentrate on what you want to say to yourself and your friends. Follow your inner moonlight; don’t hide the madness. You say what you want to say when you don’t care who’s listening." ~ Allen Ginsberg
I took the day off because I have the PTO, wanted a three day weekend, and had to take Triscuit to the vets for a follow-up distemper booster shot and exam.
Triscuit really hates the carrier and it took me almost 20 minutes to chase her, corner her, then pick her up and get her into it. Like many rescue pets, after being bounced around from shelter to shelter and a foster home before she landed in what hopefully will be her forever home, she associates the carrier with major upsets in her life. I'm hoping that taking her and bringing her back to the same place will eventually start easing her fears, plus I leave it out now and sometimes stick treats or toys she likes in there. The vet that saw us was the one in the practice I really like, and I'll be sure to request her specifically in the future because she helped me so much with Panda there at the end. As I shared before, there is some doubt about how old she is - one shelter listed her birthdate as March 2013, another as March 2015. Two years makes a bit of a difference in cat aging years! This vet thinks she is 8 rather than 10 because of her condition: eyes bright, coat glossy, no medical complications [knock on wood], teeth healthy
First thing this morning they were swarming over the area, and two huge concrete trucks pulled up, ready to cover over those gaping holes that had been drilled. I assume the underneath infrastructure had been fixed
The second picture shows they are apparently applying a second layer that extends and overlaps with the other patches smoothly.
Triscuit's doing better than I am. To my dismay and confusion, I experienced a critical low glucose problem while at the vet. I had taken the shots as I always do in the morning, eaten breakfast [but didn't have time to prepare chai], and apparently the unusual exertions of catching and then toting a 12 lb tabby sent my blood sugar into a tail spin. I rather plaintively asked the receptionist if they had a vending machine where I could buy a soda or some candy, but even without explaining why I needed it, she said no, but here is a piece of my pineapple she had at her workstation and went and got two donut holes for me. The episode passed, the glucose climbed out of the danger zone [>60] and I was able to drive home comfortably. Fixed my chai, drank it, checked and I literally zoomed from 57 to 208 - what a roller coaster ride! It'll be interesting to see if my sodium levels are improving with less water.
The minimal activity of this morning did tire me out far more than it should have, but so far no headaches, and the rash seems a bit less itchy/irritating today, altho it bothered me more and more as the day wore on. Because the leg cramps are not letting me sleep during the night, I spent a couple of hours on the couch this afternoon, and thus the day off has just slipped away.....
Dusk falls and the Flower Moon rises. It looked much closer in person and was a light pink color, but no matter how many times I retook the picture and played with effects, that didn't come quite come through the way that I would've liked to have shown.
